Digital Fashion Conference

The Fashion Digital Studio at London College of Fashion, of which Enrique Ramos is part, is organising the 1st International Conference on Digital Fashion in London on 16th-17th May 2013.

“Digital Fashion 2013 is the inaugural event organised and hosted by Fashion Digital Studio, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London and establishes a premier international forum for the dissemination of novel scholar work on the interplay between fashion, digital technology and interaction design. The event will be attended by industry and academia and will feature keynote speakers and presentations from both.”

SEC JV

esc-studio has established a collaboration with two London-based architecture firms: Sack and Reicher and Collingridge and Smith Architects.

SEC JV works as a joint venture of three complementary groups – Sack and Reicher, esc-studio, and Collingridge and Smith Architects. Together, this structure allows us to engage in each project with a wide range of resources, while providing a tailored set of skills responding to the project’s unique character and opportunities.

Sack and Reicher Architecture and Landscape specialises in enhancing the relationships between development and conservation, to promote sustainable growth. Architects and Landscape Architects work together on each project, often involving infrastructure and urban and regional planning.
esc-studio is an innovative architecture practice seeking to deliver efficient architecture by embedding the appropriate technologies within the design process. Our expertise in design optimisation, rationalisation, environmental control and digital fabrication helps us transform our ideas into high-performance built architecture.
Collingridge and Smith Architects bring their vast experience in sustainability, high-end commercial and residential developments, and education buildings. This is combined with their proficiency in renovations and working in historic contexts. Phil Smith’s involvement in the development of the Green Star rating tools in New Zealand puts him at the forefront of sustainable knowledge.

Arduino and Kinect Projects

The book Arduino and Kinect Projects, from Enrique Ramos and Ciriaco Castro with a contributed chapter of Przemek Jaworski, has just been published by Apress. This is the first book on the market to address the intersection of Arduino and Kinect.

If you’ve done some Arduino tinkering and wondered how you could incorporate the Kinect—or the other way around—then this book is for you. The authors of Arduino and Kinect Projects will show you how to create 10 amazing, creative projects, from simple to complex. You’ll also find out how to incorporate Processing in your project design—a language very similar to the Arduino language.
The ten projects are carefully designed to build on your skills at every step. Starting with the Arduino and Kinect equivalent of “Hello, World,” the authors will take you through a diverse range of projects that showcase the huge range of possibilities that open up when Kinect and Arduino are combined.
  • Gesture-based Remote Control. Control devices and home appliances with hand gestures.
  • Kinect-networked Puppet. Play with a physical puppet remotely using your whole body.
  • Mood Lamps. Build your own set of responsive, gesture controllable LED lamps.
  • Drawing Robot. Control a drawing robot using a Kinect-based tangible table.
  • Remote-controlled Vehicle. Use your body gestures to control a smart vehicle.
  • Biometric Station. Use the Kinect for biometric recognition and checking Body Mass Indexes.
  • 3D Modeling Interface. Learn how to use the Arduino LilyPad to build a wearable 3D modelling interface.
  • 360º Scanner. Build a turntable scanner and scan any object 360º using only one Kinect.
  • Delta Robot. Build and control your own fast and accurate parallel robot.

What you’ll learn

  • Arduino and Kinect basics
  • Interfacing Kinect and Arduino through Processing
  • Communicating: Serial and communication over networks
  • Interacting with the physical world: Sensors and actuators
  • Volumetric Scanning
  • Step-by-step instructions on a variety of Arduino/Kinect projects

Who this book is for

Intermediate to experienced gadget hackers who want to learn how to combine Arduino with Kinect, or who want inspiration for innovation.
